I Was Hit By A Squirrel

Yes, you read that correctly. I was on my way to work bright and early this morning, for a class. I was actually really close to Ren's place and having jealous pangs, knowing she was still sleeping at such an early hour. Anyway, I suddenly notice a squirrel sprinting into the street, right toward my car. I slowed a bit and swerved a little too, but still heard and felt a THUD! in the rear of my vehicle. I caught my breath as my eyes welled up. As sad as I was, knowing I must have killed the critter, the disturbed part of me immediately looked back to check out the carnage. Not only was there no body, but the rodent was bolting back toward the yard from where it had run out initially. It seemed fine. I think I was more shaken.

Hey You!

One of my yard squirrels who is getting quite used to being photographed.

Don't feel bad - squirrels are just rats with cuter outfits. ;)

I LOVE squirrels. I raised two in the hallway of my graduate student apartment on the south side of Chicago. And these weren't the wimpy squirrels of elsewhere in the country. Oh no. These were the squirrels bred and born in the shade of the sculpture marking the Met Lab of the Manhattan Project at the University of Chicago. These were uber-nuclear, monster, sandwich-snatching, grey squirrels.

I love squirrels too! I think my post was misunderstood by Nanette and Yvett. I've become quite fond of rodents, in general. I would NEVER wear that t-shirt, although my dog Little Guy would love it. His life mission is to protect his territory from the evil squirrels.

Brenda: Our squirrels are quite bold too. Hopefully not nuclear though.

i was either asleep or not yet in bed. either way, i wasn't on my way to work.

those squirrels have heavy feet. i hear them running across the roof all the time. heavy feet=slow squirrel=not your fault.

we have a family that live in the huge oak tree in our back yard - two summers ago i watched a little one fall off the back fence. it was quite dramatic. he got up and tried to be all cool like, he meant to do that...

Hit and run by a squirrel? :(
Glad to hear both parties survived though.
