There's nothing like getting all revved up for a cool, free event for one of your favorite tv shows that you barely got reservations for, and kind of felt smug for doing so, and that you invited friends to, only to find out that it's taking place almost 3000 miles away and you have no plane tickets!

Michael: I just want you know, you've been a big disappointment to me today, okay.
Stanley: Oh. Go away.
1/10/2009
Dad: Why do you think you're a dork? I don't think you're a dork. I don't think Mom thinks you're a dork. Samantha: Mike thinks I'm a dork.
Okay, I've got to get on this. The wonderfully sarcastic Bart, emailed me some interview questions when I responded to one he did on his blog. Since he gave me the honor of being the only recipient of questions, I need to stop over thinking the whole thing and just do it. So, here goes. First, some rules and info for anyone wanting to participate:
I'm not exactly sure, but I think the neck thing has something to do with being tickled relentlessly when I was a child. I can't even stand something coming toward my neck. If I THINK I'm going to be touched there, I jump out of my skin. I've gotten to the point where I can tolerate light necklaces, for a while, but scarves and turtlenecks are not so comfortable.
And my favorite Beatle? I'm so friggin' wishy-washy that I always have trouble with favorite type questions. I keep coming back to John. The mysterious, poetic, political one. However, my favorite Beatles song, "Eleanor Rigby," is a Paul tune. See? Wishy.Washy.
2) When you recently saw Ben Folds, did he have the double piano set up? And if he did, did he do that awesome bit where he plays with both his hands and feet? And did he rule awesomely?
Nope to the first question, nullifying the second. Only one piano. I will answer the third part with another question. When does he not rule awesomely? Between Ben Folds Five, completely solo, and playing along with various other band members, I've seen Mr. Folds live around 20 times. This latest show was hands down one of the best. I'm sure I could go on and on about one of my favorite performers and never end up at Question #3. Instead, if anyone is even interested, there are a few posts in my archives, including the one related to 9/11/01.
3) I see a lot of stuff out of you, but not a lot of "snark." Why'd you choose that? Yes, this is a bit of a joke question.
Now I'm curious to see what you do see coming out of me! I've been accused before (mainly by "internet people") of not being very snarky or dorky, at least not enough to warrant use of the moniker. Anyone who really knows me, will testify to how incredibly, unapologetically dorky I am. As for the snark, I can bring that too. Oh, yes I can. I often go a little too far though, or pick an inappropriate situation, and get in trouble for it. I only remember my husband and I coming up as something that wasn't my actual name, but was unique.
And hey, it's better than one of the earlier blog names I considered, which was Sparkly Cheese. I wish I was kidding.
4) If you were to mentor a blogger, what would be your blogosphere version of the "if you can take the stone from my hand, grasshoppa" trial?
Damn, these questions are kind of hard. And the thought of me mentoring a blogger does make me laugh a little. Personally, I just try to have fun with it and not put too much pressure* on myself. I don't have a large audience, but that's not really one of my goals. I suppose I'd advise the newbie to figure out what they want to start putting stuff online and for what purpose. If it's anything more than an online diary, a way to share some photos, or keeping in touch with friends and family, I'd refer them to other bloggers I know who are doing more serious and profound things.
*I have just agreed to something that will require more obligation that I put into this site, but I'm up for the challenge and will discuss more later!
5) Are you aware that I'm not very fond of most health care professionals? How do you live with knowing that? Just kidding, you aren't all bad, its simply a system, like most systems, that is broken. But as a health care pro, can you tell us the worst instance of the system failing someone? Obviously change or hide names...and heck, why don't you tell us about a time when the system really benefited someone for the positive vibes.
Yikes. It can suck. As can animal health care, as I learned recently. I'd like to think that my role in the cog is a good one. In my capacity, I help people (kids, to be a little more specific in my vague musings here) take steps toward returning to life after often devastating injuries or illness. However, I have to deal with the bureaucracy, which can be quite unpleasant. With my work having mostly positive outcomes, I do tend to remember the bad stories. For example, a teenage athlete loses a leg in a tragic accident. His parents are gainfully employed and insured, but the company will not fund a prosthetic leg. Instead, they tell the parents to just purchase a peg for him, out of their own pockets.*
I realize I've done something good when former patients come back to visit me. Just this past week, a 25-year old woman came by, with her 6-year old twins and 3-year old child in tow. I knew her probably about eight or nine years ago. She's moved out-of-state, but was in town for the holidays. I was one of the few people she specifically asked to see, which says something to me about the impact I had on her life. I am embarrassed to say that I could not remember her name. Ack. I remembered HER though and what I'd helped her manage. So, after our lengthy conversation, I immediately emailed a colleague she'd also visited to find out her name. Oh! Of course.
*Details of that story have been altered, but the gist is very much true to what happened in one memorable case.
- Link back to the person you received the interview from.
- If you want to participate, leave a comment saying, “Interview me.”
- I will respond by emailing you 5 questions. I get to pick the questions.
- You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
- You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.

Lifelong Learning
('You Don't Have To Be A Man-Ho')
I am a student of life. I love to learn new things. With that in mind and in an attempt to catch up on this very neglected blog, I will share some new knowledge I have obtained over the past few weeks months.
(I originally intended to finish & post this over a month ago).
I learned:
(I originally intended to finish & post this over a month ago).
I learned:
- Waiting until the last minute to prepare things for Comic-Con not only costs me more money, but causes my stress to multiply to almost inexplicable levels. I really hope this is a lesson that sticks so I don't get myself into a frenzied mess again.
- Darlene, Paul, and Bully The Little Stuffed Bull are all just as nice in person as I thought they would be. It's so much fun to meet internet friends in person! A fun side note is that both Darlene and Bully went home with hamster friends I'd made.
- If the new Flight of the Conchords songs I've heard them perform in the recent live shows I've attended are any indication, we are in for some funny episodes of the new season of their tv show. I'll just say one thing-Jemaine=prostitute.
- Baby showers these days are fancy. Like wedding reception fancy. I survived going to two in one weekend recently and was really impressed by the posh table settings, fancy stemware, catered food, 5,000 homemade deserts, really cool favors (though I still love pink and white Jordan almonds). A-MAZING.
- Apparently, you can get real live Pikachus in Japan. Um yeah. I don't think these really exist, but I would still love to have one!
- I care far more about politics than the Olympic games. It doesn't mean I'm anti-American. But you can call me old and boring. I can handle it. I can also come up with a way to make fun of you too.
- Some people are as crazy in love with their pet pythons as I am with my hamster. So crazy in fact that I'd mistake them for buying an extra cute, extra expensive hammy as a pet. But no, when I naively pointed out how cute the rodent was, the guy purchasing it coldly informed me that he'd be feeding it to his massive reptile.
- In attempt to stay cool while hanging out in the yard this summer, Little Guy took to lying around in a hole under an outdoor table. I had no idea he was doing this until recently. For my "slow" dog, he's being pretty smart.

Phone Home
Total cop-out, poorly written moblog as I won't be home by midnight. Rules are just to post though, right? Sorry if I don't pique your interest.

The Strike Affects All Of Us
I am in support of the Writer's Guild and what they are trying to accomplish. No, I'm not a writer or even in The Industry. But, as the WGA strikes, we are all affected, in some way or another. I have some very good friends who are actors, another who is an Emmy winning editor of a very popular television show, and one who works post-production on a drama. They are feeling the pain of their livelihoods being completely shutdown.
But, let's talk about ME and how this whole thing impacts my life, or specifically how it had a direct effect on things this very night. About a month ago, I got word from fellow SoCal Duranie (shut up!) that we could get free tickets to an outdoor mini-concert Duran Duran was to do in Hollywood. I secured my two tickets and found a friend who was excited to go along. This free event was in conjunction with the band's appearance on a late night talk show and they were going to perform five or six songs on the stage behind the building on Hollywood Boulevard.
Of course, due to the strike, the program is in reruns and so...no free Duran Duran show. So, as you can clearly see, we can all potentially suffer and should get involved to get this industry moving again.
Granted, I haven't even bought the new Duran Duran album and probably didn't deserve a free show after all. Part of the reason is that I didn't really like the first song I heard. I blame Justin Timberlake.

Dwight: So you're PMSing pretty bad, huh?
Jenn made these awesome office memos. She's even offered* to customize some for me, for my workplace, that also say:
- Stop crying.
- Stop getting pregnant.
*Okay, so it wasn't exactly an offer, but it is a great idea and I may be willing to pay and/or bribe her for them.

Text Message from my 20-year old brother, Kyle:
Who do you like more...The Police or R.E.M.? Mom and I are debating.
I responded:
I don't know. They are both so different. It would be like picking your favorite kid. Oh, I'm seeing The Police twice this summer.
10:48 PM (from Kyle):
I know! You're so lucky!
Yeah, I know. I am lucky to be Mom's favorite kid. ;-)

Call Me Unpatriotic
I don't get American Idol.
I don't like American Idol.
I don't want to talk about American Idol.
What the hell is wrong with me?

Oh Pooh!
A co-worker called me "Eeyore" today. Oops. I was trying to not let on that I'm kind of gloomy and not feeling very festive. We were doing our holiday gift exchange thingy and I picked #2. I commented that I was bummed to get such a low number. Well, it all worked out for me in the end. I picked a good gift and no one stole it.

It's a little green Starbucks tote bag with a travel cup and a package of coffee. I know, I know, I've had a beef with Starbucks lately, but I'm a sucker for a tote bag, especially a cute little tote bag I can use for work.
As for my snarky co-worker, well I gave her some snark right back later in the day.
Happy Annoyingly Expensive Pain-In-The-Ass Time of Year or whatever you like to call it. I'm going to take a nap.

'Tis The Season...
...oh, come on. I'm kind of scrooge-y and bah humbugish, so this is not a jolly holiday post.
What I wanted to say was it's the time of year when our opportunities for free film screenings multiply. As the year comes to an end, the studios want their films out there for Oscar® consideration.
Last night we saw King Kong. Since it hasn't opened yet, I'll reserve comments and any reviews for a later date.Next week we'll be seeing Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire (again! I did pay to see it once), and Narnia. I'm happy to not pay for Narnia since I wasn't really excited to see it. I ended up being too sick for the HP and Narnia screenings.
A total non sequitur, but one of my co-workers just totally burned me. He was talking about a conversation yesterday and referred to it and I said, "Well, I guess I was not listening to you because I don't remember that." He said, "Well, Jodi, it seems you don't listen a lot, but you sure do chip in all the time!"
So true, so true. I am an ass.

Rainy Days and Mondays or Why I Love Dicky Barrett
Today is a sleepy Monday. That's fairly typical, but the reason is not. We had intense thunder and lightning last night. Two of my dogs decided to bark each time, just in case I was too soundly asleep to miss it. Now it's a cloudy, rainy, dreary day. Oh how I wish to be in my p.j.'s, curled up with some hot cocoa and a book.
That said, I did have a big smile on my face for nearly my entire drive to work this morning. Listening to Dicky Barrett on the Mighty Morning Show on Indie 103.1 has that effect on me. I think it's a combination of the Boston accent, the snarky attitude and the great music he plays that really works.
In this morning's "Punk Rock Minute," he mentioned that Gang of Four would be playing at the Grand Opening of Hollywood & Highland's Virgin Megastore today. He also mentioned that INXS would be performing with "their new lead singer Puck or Omarosa or whoever it is" (paraphrase). I love it!
Dicky played rain-themed songs this morning, so not only did I hear "Happy When It Rains" by The Jesus and Mary Chain, but he also played "Rainy Days and Mondays" by The Carpenters. Two of my all-time favorite songs that could not be more different.
I am a fan of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and enjoyed seeing them live in Orange County several years ago. (How can you not enjoy a band that has one guy who just dances?) But, I do like what Dicky's doing now and hope he's here for awhile.
