The Easter Beagle Won't Let Us Down

While I don't celebrate Easter in any sort of religious way, it's a holiday, like Christmas, that's hard to escape. I can't say yesterday was terrible, but it wasn't the greatest of days. For one, I missed the calling of the start of the egg hunt and then only found one egg. One lousy egg. At least it was one of the plastic ones with candy and not a real egg. Ew. The real kick in the pants came though when I went to stock up on discounted Peeps that night, only to be told they had sold out two days ago. I did pick up some Cadbury Creme Eggs and chocolate marshmallow eggs. But no Peeps. Boo.

None of those disappointments compare to when I was about five years old and my father told me that the Easter Bunny had been hit by a car and killed. As I used to be pretty gullible, I was understandably devastated.

Not all of my Easter memories are bad. Here are my top three:
  • I believe it was 1978. I was in 2nd grade and The E. Bunny put Shaun Cassidy tickets in my basket. Coincidentally, a few of my friends got them too. Best first concert ever!
  • It must have been 1979 or 1980 and I got my first pair of panty hose for Easter. Nowadays, I avoid wearing them like the plague, but I'd been begging my Mom for some for a while. I was growing up and felt ready to move up from tights. Awesome!
  • In 2006, I embarked on making the Easter candy version of the turducken. I called it an Egg Peepunny. Click to see a set of photos of the process and finished product.

Kisses With Kevin Smith

From a dream journal that I keep very sporadically:

Give Peeps® A Chance

So, I don't have any co-workers who will discuss the season finale of Battlestar Galactica with me, but we will bond in other ways. I've discovered that several people, who I actually like, share my love of Peeps®. When I picked up a prescription earlier tonight, I stocked up on some of the sugar-coated marshmallowy bunnies and chicks. I even left them in my car so I wouldn't be tempted to eat them before getting to work.

I'm keeping the black jelly beans all to myself though. Seriously.

Oh Mylanta!

Well, I did it. I created my very own "Easter Turducken," which I like to refer to as an Egg Peepunny. You can check out the photos here.

**Warning: the pictures are quite graphic and depict Peep violence!**

This just may be a way to, at least temporarily, cure sugar addiction. Dude.

I still have lots left over in the fridge if anyone wants to try it!

I'm still on the lookout for a leftover hollow chocolate Easter bunny. A co-worker may have one for me, but she thinks it may be solid. I'm thinking about going to Big Lots after work, but my hope is waning.

I really wish I had something interesting to write about, but I'm tired, very irritable, and feeling incredibly bitchy and snippy today. Yep, it's hormonal and that's all I'll say about that.

Sugar High

I am so doing this!

***11pm Edit: Unfortunately, it looks like chocolate bunnies are now extinct until next year. I still may attempt part of this glorious experiment!***

Candy Corn Cure

I've been pretty sick this week. It started as allergies, but progressed to my chest. I've been getting lots of sleep, drinking plenty of fluids, and working short days. I think I may be getting a little better and am trying hard to not do too much too soon.

Eric bought me a big bag of candy corn to help me feel better. He sure is a swell guy!

Edit 10/13/05: I'm being told I'm the only person who eats this stuff. It can't be true, can it?

Famima!!

I'm mildly obsessed with Japanese pop culture. I heard about this upscale, Japanese-style "convenience store" in West Hollywood and just had to check it out! It's called Famima!! and yes, the exclamation points seem to be part of the name.

Last night after seeing Emo Phillips perform his unique and hilarious comedy show and a bite to eat at Canter's Deli, we stopped in Famima!! It's open and bright and green and shiny and I really, really like it! You can see here what Famima's roll-out plan is for L.A. I was dismayed to find out I don't live in an area with high living standards.

I made a few purchases at the shop, including some Japanese candies, one of which came with a toy surprise I discovered this morning. I also got some fancy teas and a cleaning sponge. Besides basic food items, internet access, coffee, magazines in English and Japanese, you can get fancy chocolates, stationary items, and toiletries at Famima!! They even had black Q-tip type ear swabs. Now, I'm not quite sure why one would want these. Perhaps to see the ear wax better? Ew, no thanks.

Oh yeah, I also bought a dark chocolate candy bar called "Dagoba." Okay, that has to win me some points on the geek scale.

Help Me Now!

I was just in my local Sav-on (pharmacy, candy, school supplies, etc.) and was a bit surprised to see they've already stocked an aisle with Halloween candy. It's not even September yet! I'm trying to see the positive side of this and thinking of the possibilities for feeding my latest obsession with photographing things that are orange. How will I stop from feeding my sweet tooth though? Who buys this stuff in August? Only people who are going to eat it now! Ack! Help me!

Part of the reason it is taking me so long to read the book Candyfreak is that when I read its descriptions of various types of candies, many of which I've never even eaten, I start having mad cravings. I was reading it earlier which led me to pick up a Chris Ungar, er...Big Hunk...when I went to Sav-on. (I also got some pens...I love school supplies!)

The time between now and my favorite holiday is going to go quickly. I will hopefully be able to control myself and not over-indulge on the sugary goodness in the orange packaging. Temptation is difficult, but I will hopefully prevail. Besides, before you know it, Halloween will be a memory and the Xmas decorations will have replaced my nemesis.
